About TSIA

The Texas Self Insurance Association (TSIA) was established to pass legislation to permit certified self insurance as an alternative to commercial insurance in the workers’ compensation system.  When that legislation was passed in 1989, TSIA voted to continue its existence to provide representation on workers’ compensation issues of all large employers before the Texas Legislature and now the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI).

TSIA recognizes the continued need to advocate, educate, and provide a voice for workers’ compensation issues for the business community in Texas.

During the 2005 legislative session, TSIA played a crucial role in the restructuring and overhaul of the Texas Workers’ Compensation Commission, abolishing existing regulatory structures and moving its function to TDI.  In addition, TSIA helped to pass laws that called for the development of carrier and certified self insurer workers’ compensation medical networks.
